Rongai Route

• Rongain is the only route that approaches the mountain from the north side of the mountain
• If you are intended to climb Kilimanjaro from the Kenyan boarder side, then Rongai is a great option
• It is the most loved for those who are looking for an alternative to the popular Marangu route

Pros:–

• It is the driest routes of Kilimanjaro
• If you are looking for trekking from northern side you can take Rongai
• It offers a great wilderness

Cons:–

• It can be challenging for those who doesn’t have that physical fitness
• The six day variation does not have an acclimatization day on day four at Mawenzi Tarn

• The Rongai Route is the sole route that initiates Kilimanjaro from the north
• It is though considered as an alternative of Marangu it has fewer crowds than Marangu
• The only route where seeing wildlife in the first days is possible

Machame or the ‘whiskey route’ sets off from the southern side of the Kilimanjaro through some of the most impressive geological structures ranging from arid dusty trails, lava cones, porous volcanic rocks, steep ridges, concentric craters, alpine zones, heath and moorland, glacial sheets etc.
