Tanzania Overview

Immerse yourself completely into the life of Tanzanian people and discover their way of life in Tanzania Cultural Tourism. In addition to visiting the national parks and the wildlife, part of the fun of Tanzania Cultural Tours is to try new things and live in a different way against what we’re accustomed to at home.

Tanzania is home to 51 million people who are divided into 125 different ethnic groups and 120 different languages but live in harmony. Some tribes are closer to each other culturally while others are far apart. Some of the most notable tribes include:

  • Hadzabe Tribe. They are currently one of the last hunter-gatherers in the world and they primarily survive on meat, roots, and plants. Their culture is also threatened and only 1,500 of the tribe members are left.
  • Maasai Tribe. We believe you’ve heard about them before somewhere in your research. If not, they’re the most famous and populated tribe in Tanzania. They’re also extended over to Kenya and you can find them over there as well. Their culture is very rich and they’ve attained mastery in arts and crafts, including some brilliant hand-crafted jewellery.
  • Chagga Tribe. The people of Chagga tribe can be found around the slopes of the mountain and are the third largest ethnic group in Tanzania. They’re agriculturists and depend mainly on farming for their livelihood. Their way of farming on their coffee plantation fields is something to experience when you’re here.
  • Sukuma Tribe. Also known as the North westerners, Sukumas are the largest ethnic group in Tanzania. They’re comparatively developed but still have strong religious belief in animism. They also perform strong drumming and dancing ceremonies which travelers flock to watch.
