Located 300 km away from the south of Equator in the Kilimanjaro Region the national park covers the highest free Standing Mountain of the world. It covers an area of 1,688 square kilometers and administrated by the Tanzania National Parks Authority.

The national park goes through 5 different climatic zones. It includes; the cultivation zone, the rainforest zone, the heath-moorland zone, the desert zone, and the arctic zone.

Kilimanjaro National Park is the second highest visited national park in Tanzania. After Ngorongoro National Park Kilimanjaro national park is the second-highest revenue-generating national parks of the country. The national park generated all total US $51 million in revenue in 2013.

As per the record of TANAPA, the national park welcomed 57,456 tourists during the 2011-12 budget years. The national park is home to Montane forest, moorland, and grassland as well as hosting a decent population of primates, elephants and other animals. Blue monkeys, western black and white colobuses, bushbabies, and leopards can be spotted in the national park region.

Getting There

The best airport to fly to is Kilimanjaro international airport (code JRO). Flights to Kilimanjaro due to few airline services are neither easily found nor cheap to find. If you are unable to find direct flights to Kilimanjaro airport then you can reserve flights to either Nairobi airport, Kenya or Dar es Salaam airport, Tanzania. Thenafter you need to join a connecting flight to Kilimanjaro airport or bus transfer to Moshi town or Arusha town for the start of your climb.
