350km southwest of Dar es Salaam is the Udzungwa Mountains National Park, which is wild, lushly forested slopes of the mountain. Established in 1992 this bio diversified spectacular park acquires 1,990 sq km.

The unique vegetation of the national park includes Miombo woodlands, grasslands, mountain forests, tropical rainforests, and steppe. The Udzungwa forests range from 250 m to 2,576 m spreading across rolling hills, valleys and mountains.

Initiated from the Eastern Arc Mountains that were formed some 200 million years ago the park is a true hiker’s paradise and also offers various iconic activities.

Udzungwa Mountains National Park is one of Tanzania’s most outstanding botanically inclined park that has an important population of primates.

Covering less than 2% of Tanzanian land the park is home to 30-40% of the country's plants and mammal species. You can easily spot many unique plants, butterflies, amphibians, butterflies, and birds.

Getting There

Drive through Selous Game Resevre. This route is newly completed by TANAPA and allows a circuit to be driven from Dar to Selous, on to Udzungwa, then up to Mikumi and back to Dar. Besides Coastal operate daily flights to/from Udzungwa/Kilombero to Dar es Salaam and Zanzibar. This flight runs every afternoon and links Udzungwa to the rest of the safari circuit.
