After breakfast in your camp, you will be transferred to the airstrip for your scheduled flight to Mahale. Upon arrival, enjoy an exciting transfer by dhow and a short drive to your camp arriving in time for lunch.Enjoy stunning views of the steep Mahale Mountains rising up on your left as you head north to Greystoke. During these days you will have the walk to find the chimps, this takes anywhere between an hour and four hours, depending on where the chimpanzees are. Please be aware that because they are completely wild, sightings cannot be absolutely guaranteed, although over the course of your stay the guides will do their best to ensure you do see the chimpanzees at least once. You are allowed an hour with the chimpanzees, which are habituated to visits by tourists, and they are truly fascinating to watch interact, eat, and play. You will often hear them before you see them, their howls and shrieks reverberating through the forest, which only adds to your excitement as you are walking to find them with your guide. a choice of game viewing activities and on one of the days you will enjoy a trek to see the chimps. This morning you will be transferred to the airstrip for your scheduled flight to Selous. Upon arrival at Selous you will be met and taken on a short game drive en route to your camp in time for lunch. This afternoon enjoy a game activity. Two nights at SELOUS SAFARI CAMP. Selous Safari Camp comprises well appointed classic safari tents on the banks of one of the lakes formed by the Rufiji River, sheltered in a grove of palms. Guided game viewing by boat, vehicle and on foot. (B, L, D)
You have the day to enjoy various game viewing activities. Selous Game Reserve has one third of the world’s wild dog, 60,000 elephant, more buffalo, hippo and crocodile than any other African game reserve or National Park, as well as all the plains game and predators. (B, L, D)
After breakfast you will be taken to the airstrip for your scheduled flight to Dar es Salaam. On arrival at Dar es Salaam Airport you will be offered airport assistance for your onward flight.
Tanzania is great to visit any time of year. Most people avoid the rainy months of April, May, and November. Some travelers like to go during the peak migration season of wildebeest, zebras and number of antelopes in Serengeti National Park, Ngorongoro Highlands and Masai Mara in Kenya. If by chance the itinerary shows that you will take your hot lunch at the hotel then there is no need of packed lunch. Basically lunch at the lodge follows with a rest before proceeding with late afternoon game drive.
The great extraordinary animal kingdom migration is an annual migration of about 1 million wildebeest, 300000 zebras and 200000 gazelles migrating from Serengeti National Park to Ngorongoro crater and contiguous Masai Mara National Reserve searching for fresh grasses as well as water. This is a honeymoon (easy to hunt) period for the crocodile in Grumeti River and other carnivores such as lion and leopard while the migration is taking place. The best time to see the migration in Tanzania is January-March and June-August and in Masai Mara National Reserve in Kenya it is often best September-October. These are also the most popular times to go, so you will need to book well in advance.
