Located in Katavi region of Tanzania, Katavi national park is a great place to visit and interestingly the national park is great in rainy season. Bechause for most of the year Katavi national park stays dry. The reason is it receives lowest concentration of rain fall and the wettest month receives only 137mm rainfall while the dry months receive only 9mm rainfall.
The national park is great for the animals that are living in that area that are affected by flood during the rainy months. Usually they get shifted to the katavi area during the rainy season from the flooded area. So if you are planning for a safari trip to Tanzania during the rainy months giving a visit to Katavi National park is must.
While the national park is one of the driest areas of the country, it has highest numbers of hippos of the country too. The male hippo's aggressive fights are the most interesting scenes you can witness. It is hard to find a hippo without battle scars. Not only hippos, but also crocodile's concentrations are high too. During the dry season of the country travellers can spot 200 crocodiles sharing one cave at a time.
Apart from hippos and crocodiles, the country has massive herds of buffalo too along with zebra, hartebeest, eland, giraffe and defassa waterbuck, around 3000 elephants, and much more.
